What is a UUID?

A UUID (universally unique identifier, also called a GUID) is a 128-bit ID written as 32 hex digits in five groups, like 3f1c2b7e-9a4d-4c1e-8b2f-5d6e7a8b9c0d. Version 4 UUIDs are random: 122 random bits make a collision vanishingly unlikely, so systems can create IDs independently without coordinating.

Frequently asked questions

Is this truly random?

It’s cryptographically secure pseudo-randomness seeded by your operating system’s entropy, which is unpredictable for any practical purpose including draws and games.

Can I generate numbers without repeats?

Yes. Tick “No repeats” and the numbers are drawn without replacement, like a lottery.

What’s the largest range?

Up to about 9 quadrillion (2⁵³) for single numbers. For no-repeat draws, the range must be at least as big as the count.
